I've got a golden ticket!

TIL: There is a lot of Grandpa Joe hate on the Internet.

But let me backtrack. Currently, my room looks like the ghost of vacations past went on a rampage, and I don't even care. Unpacking sucks.

Instead of attempting to put any of this back together, I'm going to sit in bed and tell you a little bit about Seattle:

Firstly, flying across the country is awesome, but hard. I did so good on the plane this time, though! I didn't even freak out and there was very minimal nervous leg bouncing. Penny freaked out more than I did, but then she was also asleep for 89% of the actual plane time so there is that.

On the way home, Penny and I were looking out of the plane window admiring the city lights at night. It was spectacular until we noticed we were flying into a black hole of doom.

It took a little longer than I'd like to admit to realize that we weren't falling off the face of the earth, but that we were in fact flying over the ocean, killing either time or fuel. I'll amend my previous, "I didn't even freak out" to "I surely did freak when we were flying into blackness."

Back to the trip. When Penny and I got to Seattle last Saturday, we were tired and pretty much fell asleep at 7pm, local time. We were afraid we'd wake up in the middle of the night, but LOL. Nope. We slept some ridiculous thing like 14 hours. It's no wonder that as Penny got out of bed that morning, she said she felt a little like Grandpa Joe, struggling out of bed for the promise of chocolate. Naturally, a chorus of, "I've got a golden ticket!" preceded a large portion of our activities during the week.

It was a very musical week, in fact. I don't know if you know this about me, but I'm a very musical person. Mostly this means that I have a song for almost everything, and if I don't, I just make one up. Penny and I came up with this little gem:
Stupid rain, stupid rain, driving me insane.

(I don't know what's worse, that that song was really impressive to us while in Seattle, or the fact that it took two of us to make it up.)

All this music was the backdrop to a lot of activities. My favorites were as follows:

- Going to the top of the Space Needle.

- The Woodland Park Zoo on a clear, cool and beautiful couple of hours. (Not a full day because did you know it rains in Seattle?)

- Pike Place Market

- The Experience Music Project, which also had sections on Sci-fi and horror movies. SO COOL.

- A harbor tour.

An honorable mention goes to the time I made Penny walk uphill to get to some pancakes. I mean, I didn't really know it was going to be an uphill climb, I just knew that the restaurant was highly rated and had pancakes.

I loved the Seattle style and culture, though the weather frankly sucked. The city was kind of ugly, in a really charming way, but the skyline as a whole was super attractive. Which is weird.

I'm not even gonna lie though: we slept a lot. A lot, a lot. It was great. Also, we only had like 20 channels in the hotel, but one of them was maybe like HBO Family? I don't know, but it was showing lots of Harry Potter all week, and I watched it every time it was on. It was mostly The Deathly Hallows over and over again, and I watched it.

It was great.

TL;DR? My vacation involved singing songs, walking around the city, wearing all the scarves, watching Harry Potter and sleeping.

Why don't you all tone that jealousy down a notch? We can't all be me.

I'm happy to be home, though, and more on that later.

I like your faces,

THERE IS A PICTURE OF YOU NOT WEARING SUNGLASSES!!!! I feel like the world just exploded a little bit. Also, I really want to know how you coped with the elevator to the top of the Space Needle. Was it as traumatic as the elevator at the museum in Chicago????

Also also? I love that you're all "We only had 20 channels", because that's more channels than are available in Australia EVER (we have 16. I just checked the TV guide to count them).

Also also also? I now expect there to be singing in January. That is all.

I miss your face <3

YES I KNOW. I put one up on the about section and it made me brave. I guess I'm not really anonymous anymore, right? I mean, I'm still using Lorraine as my pen name, but whatevs. COME AT ME INTERNET.

The elevator in Chicago was CREEPY OKAY. And huge and weird. I freaked out a little bit going up the Space Needle but it was a much smaller elevator and it was a little cramped so I didn't have the freedom of full freakage.

LOL. Sorry. That was really insensitive of me. I really mean, "WE HAD 20 WHOLE CHANNELS, WEEEEEE." ;)

There will be singing. I know you now, so there's no reason to be embarrassed. Also, I must've mentioned January to Jen like 87 times during this trip. I can't wait.

Miss your face more. <3

Part of me thinks we should find a karaoke place in Orlando (but one of the ones with the private rooms because NO DO NOT WANT TO SING IN FRONT OF STRANGERS). But the rest of me is terrified by that idea.

Great post, Grampa Joe. My level of jelly could use a notch of penut butter. Where did you stay in Seattle? You know it's not always terrible there, weather-wise. Just, like, most of the time.
Which was your fave: Pike Place, Experience Music Project, the hords of homeless people, the space needle--Men in Black may have a point, with that one...
Also, Penny can sleep on planes? Hmm. This too arouses jealousy.

It's pretty awesome you started singing :D I'd love to go to Seattle and see the Space Needle but I'd also spend forever trying to find anything to do with Frasier.

I've always wondered about Seattle. I hear I'd like it -- but all that RAIN. I just don't know. I think I'd start to leak or something.

(That sounds gross)

You sort of deal with it while you are there, 'cause you have to. And the thing is that it isn't usually heavy rain. It's like a constant sprinkling mist.

It was weird. Fine for a week, but I couldn't do it for forever.

Our harbor tour guide talked to us about Frasier! He pointed out the building from where the captured to view of the city they used during the show, even though it was filmed in LA...

Thanks boo. Ain't nothing wrong with some good 'ole PB and Jelly. We stayed in Queen Anne Hill which was like a five minute walk to City Center where the Space Needle is and you can catch a monorail into downtown where the market and piers are. It was lovely.

ALSO, there were so many LESS homeless people in Seattle than there were in Chicago. And there are a lot of homeless people in south Florida, but we don't really have to encounter them as much since everyone gets around by car. The first few days we were there, Penny and I were actually trying to spot the homeless. Aaaaaand now I sound like a jerk.

I KNOW. She just knocked out and I read books. "/

Looks like you had a good time! I'm glad you made it there and back safely!

PS: I'm sorry we lost the election with a write-in vote. Maybe next time.
