On Saturday night, Pink found a baby-sitter who wasn't me and Cream Cheese, Vye and I went to dinner with her at Asia de Cuba in Miami. Pink didn't know what restaurant Cheese had picked, but as always, driving into Miami was an adventure, especially as we passed some unsavory looking neighborhoods.
Pink: Where are you taking me?
Cheese: Okay, fine, if you had to pick your two favorite types of food what would they be?
Pink: I'm not gonna say! Because if I say something that isn't right or doesn't have anything to do...
Cheese: No, seriously, what are your favorites?
Pink: If I say Hungarian it's gonna ruin everything!
Meanwhile, a very pregnant Vye just kept saying, "my favorite is Italian," over and over again, because pasta is her unborn child's best friend.
The restaurant was inside of a very nice hotel and everything was beautiful, especially as the sun set over the water and we all looked out to see it, phones in hand, and Instagram apps open.
Pink: A table of four, all on their phones.
Vye: Oh, crap! I hate to see that when I go out. It looks like everyone at that table is bored.
Lor: Quick! Everyone laugh!
Mostly, though, we were just trying to behave. All three of us Valverde girls are pretty picky eaters. And even if I were trying to be nice about it, I would say we weren't that picky, but our pallets were just... unrefined. Our manners probably aren't all that far behind. Commentary heard from the birthday girl:
I don't know what "gambas gigantes" are but it sounds like giant balls.
See, this is all really good, but a big 'ole McFlurry would taste just as good to me! I mean, thanks for bringing me here baby.
What is that? THE SHRIMP'S HEAD? Cover it up! Cover it up! IT'S LOOKING AT ME.
I want to sit in that big chair over there with feathered hair, lots of eyeliner and a wine glass. Is that weird?
Have I ever mentioned how much I love Pink? We laughed too much and all said and done, the food was really delicious. Plus, I ate a lot of her birthday dessert. Not as much as Cheese Cream, though.
Sometimes, when I'm over Pink's house and she's sitting cross legged, with her laptop in her lap, looking at blogs or Youtube videos, or searching Goodreads or taking notes on whatever book she's reading, I realize how much we are alike. She told me, at dinner on Saturday, how much she wants to start a blog but that she doesn't think she can do it alone. I told her stories of bloggers I met in Chicago, stories of success, and she smiled that smile of "I can do it."
At that moment I almost came completely clean. I know I've actually left evidence of this blog all over her laptop, but I don't know what she knows. I just smiled back the smile of, "I really know you can."
A happy 30th to my favorite big sister of all time. May our lives be always filled with laughter and eyeliner and gambas gigantes.
In other news, this week has been a whirlwind of interviews. I have a second interview on Friday and I'll be meeting the president of the company, because apparently he meets all prospective employees. It's a company I'm 90% sure you've heard of that I had NO clue was headquatered in south Florida. We'll just call it HayCarumba. I honestly applied because I needed to for unemployment purposes...
It was a little stepfordian though because everyone was just REALLY! EXCITED! to be working. My mom was all, "hmm. Sounds fishy" when I told her that. She also said she didn't think it was the job for me beause you can basically wear work out wear to work. She was all, "OH HELL NO," because according to her, I'm young and single and don't need any other excuse to never wear real pants again.
She knows me so well.
I was saving one pack of Tim Tams from Kirsti to use to celebrate when I landed a job, but I totally couldn't wait anymore and opened it. Early celebration?
My mild to moderate obsession with the Olympics is flaring up. During those weeks, I cry every time I hear our national anthem. No joke.
I'm doing my best to get back into the swing of things. Like, right now, I'm typing with one hand and supporting a sleeping, snoring baby with the other.
(fake) Mom blogger win.
I truly miss all of your faces. Even the ugly ones.

I loved this post. I think it is because you sound happy, and that makes me happy =)
The prawn (that's Australian for shrimp) heads ARE looking at you. That's one of the many reasons why I don't eat seafood: it watches you while you eat it, and that's just wrong. Also, it smells gross and tastes bad, so... Yeah.
Also, the earlier than planned Tim Tam consumption was clearly just your way of celebrating my birthday! ;) That said, I'll keep my fingers crossed that it is actually an early celebration of a new job.
I miss your face. And it's definitely not one of the ugly ones.
<3
Oh my goodness. I so wish I had a job where I could wear work out clothes to it if I wanted to. Because while I often don't mind putting on business attire to go to work, there are some days when I really just wish I could wear yoga pants and a tshirt. Oh, that would be bliss. One day, when I work from home for myself, it will happen.
Oh Lordy. My Olympics obsession is gearing up as well. Like, I'm seriously concerned Twitter is going to spoil events for me because I damn well better be working by then so I'll be at work when most of the events are going on because it's all on London time and I need to make sure I TiVo EVERYTHING and I hope we get to see lots of male swimmers in Speedos.
I am Olympics crazy! CRAZY!
Happy 30th b-day to you're sister.
I always get nervous when people ask me what I like to eat while on the way out to eat at a pre-planned place. Like I'm going to not have that type of food on my top five list and then I'll be the disappointment of the evening. I usually end up saying "I like beer" and then everything continues as planned.
Work out clothes?! TO WORK?!
Ahahaha, HayCarumba. That is what I am going to call it from now on...
THE OLYMPICS!! I can't wait! Also I can't believe I know more Spanish than you, it seems so wrong somehow. Although now anytime I see Gambas Gigantes I'm totally going to think of giant balls.
Well, I knew the gigantes part but I had no idea what gambas were. Is it a word for shrimp or a specific kind? 'Cause shrimp to me is "camarones."
Spanish fail.
THE OLYMPICS SQUEE. I'm glad I'm not the only one excited.
If I get the job, you can at least say it to me a lot. You know. If you want.
YES GURL.
I thought that was amazing. I'd like to think I wouldn't abuse this privelage but LOL. I probably would.
That is the perfect answer. My equivalent would of course be "I like chocolate." Not as a safe, but decent.
So, you know we're probably going to have to start a seperate Olympics email chain, right?
I had the same thought about UM HELLO I BETTER HAVE A JOB. I'm going to be spoiled though, probably, because have I mentioned how terrible I am at handling stress and suspense?
I'm the same way. Some days I feel like a cute dress and flats and a little eye make-up. Some days though, having this yoga pants option would be amaaazing.
PRAWN. LOL. LIKE A BUBBLER AND A RUBBISH BIN IT IS ALSO WRONG. ;)
I combined birthday celebrations with hooray job celebrations.
Thank you :)
Things are on the up and up.
Shrimps have heads? Ewww....
I hope your interview went well!
